Description
This work is a celebration of joy, flight, power, calmness and passion. It is based largely on the lydian mode which gives a sense of "floating" as well as being a little ambiguous as to what key centre the work is in. This ambiguity is explored and taken advantage of throughout the work, and leads the listener to a feeling of flying, sometimes slowly like a glider, and sometimes incredibly quickly like a fighter jet.
Every instrument section is featured at some point, and the percussion section adds greatly to the soundscape throughout the work.
Written to be accessible for community bands, senior high school bands, and university ensembles, it will make a concert opener that will take musicians and listeners alike on a journey of freedom and flight.
