I acknowledge and pay my respects to the custodians of the land on which I work, live and raise my family, the Whadjuk Nyoongar and their Elders past, present and emerging.
Christopher Milne's brand new wind ensemble work for beginning band is an attempt to make a young band sound "big and serious" with an emphasis on percussion sounds. It it based on the "Dies Irae" and is thickly scored to embue confidence in young musicians as they take their first steps in ensemble performance.
There are several main teaching points including counter melody, modal melody and some dissonance. Christopher hopes it will be a fun and worthwhile pursuit for the musicians, whilst being an enjoyable piece for audience members to hear.
