"Threads Of Time" is a new work by Adele "Alex" Mitchell commissioned especially for the Brisbane Symphonic Band's 50th Anniversary. It's a rare privilege for a community ensemble to mark a milestone with music created for this exact moment - and to be the first to bring it to life.
The title suggests the way a band's story is woven: individual lines - friendships, rehearsals, concerts, conductors, supporters - running side by side, occasionally crossing, sometimes returning in new colours. As you listen, you might imagine those musical "threads" being passed from section to section, gathering into a larger tapestry that honours the past while moving forward like time itself.
Adele is an emerging Brisbane-based composer who writes for wind band, brass band, orchestra and solo instruments. Their music is noted for vivid storytelling and often explores themes of memory, place and emotion.
