Description
Duration 3:25 min
Alexander Scriabin's Etude in C-sharp Minor, Op. 2, No. 1, is one of his early works, written when he was 17. It has captured the expressive imaginations of pianists around the globe, including Vladimir Horovitz, who recorded it and performed it several times.
This orchestral arrangement by Australian composer Sally Greenaway, reimagines Scriabin's work through the lens of the symphonic palette. Greenaway is known for her ability to evoke expansive and atmospheric landscapes in her orchestration, and her take on Scriabin's piano masterpiece is lush, indulgent and perfectly formed, particularly with the addition of counter melody layers and satisfying voice-leading that we’re sure Scriabin himself would be pleased with.
